The Seacoast’s Premier Golf Championship Since 1981 |
|
SEACOAST STATS 31 years -- 1981 - 2011 |
|
In 31 years (1981-2011), 538 different players have competed in the Seacoast Amateur Golf Championship. 6,271 scores have been posted with 504,191 shots taken for an average of 82.80.
We have had only four rainouts : 1981 Rochester, 2nd Rd, 1986 Ports. 1st Rd, 1990 York, 2nd Rd, 2011 York 2nd Rd.
How we escaped being rained out in 2009 is a miracle, I’m sorry, a gift from GOD.
The following six courses hosted the first ten years : Portsmouth, Abenaqui, Cochecho, Wentworth, Rochester and York. Other clubs who have since been invited to play and are now competing : Exeter, Nippo Lake, Sunningdale, Rockingham, Pease, Sagamore, Farmington, The Oaks, Breakfast Hill, The Links at Outlook and Ledges.
The 48 balls were hit into the 18th hole pond on Sat. June 27, 2009 at Wentworth By The Sea G.C.
WOMEN COMPETING
In 1981 , Mary Gale, with a 6 handicap playing out of Rochester C.C. competed at Portsmouth and Abenaqui from the men’s tees. She shot a 171.Mary is the wife of Jack Gale who at that time was the Pro at Rochester C.C. She also is the sister of Joe Carr.
In 2003 and 2004 Kori Goulet of Rochester C.C. played in the Seacoast Am. In 2004 Kori made the cut. The courses were York, Rochester and Wentworth.
RON ADDORIO of Portsmouth is the only player who has competed in all thirty-one tournaments. Quite a feat to have maintained that low handicap for 31 years. Peter Harrity, Steve Cronin and Rick Sheldon have also competed in 30 events missing just one in that time.
